I need one or two parents that could help hang some teddy bears in the trees just outside of our classroom on Friday. I will have all the supplies you need to do the task ready for you. You will stop by the classroom and I will hand you a paper bag with all of the bears, tape and staples inside. You will wait until 7:40 so all the kiddos are inside the building before hanging the bears in a group on the trees. Remember there will be 6 classes that will be hanging bears so keep the group close, but not right on top of each other. You will then take the extra supplies in the bag to Safe and Secure. PLEASE do not tell your kiddos, this is a secret. Thanks in advance!
We also have a new date for the volunteer meeting. We will meet Monday, September 12th, at 9:35 in Room 315. That is right next to our classroom. If you want to volunteer this year and can't make it, please let me know so I can pass information to you about being a volunteer at Caraway. You must register with the district and have a background check on file. I will need volunteers on Friday, Sept. 16th, so the paperwork needs to be done quickly. Thanks in advance!

Dear Parents,
It was wonderful meeting many of you and your children last Thursday evening. I am very excited about the upcoming year. I appreciate all the information that you have emailed me so far this year. If you have not sent me an email yet, please send an email with mom & dad's names, mom & dad's phone #, and mom & dad's email. This will help me set up my data base for the year. Meet the teacher night was a little hectic, so I am adding some important information to this note in case you missed it.
School Day Times-
7:15 Caraway doors open (children can come in and line up in the hall) HUG ZONE is at the ends of the hallways!
7:35 Children are dismissed to their classrooms HUG ZONE is at the blue line on the hallway tile!
7:40 Tardy Bell Rings (children must be in the classroom by 7:40)
2:42 We will leave our classroom to go to individual drop off points in this order: basketball court/playground side (walkers), bus lane, car pick up (cars will not be allowed in until busses have left) PINK signs in windows help!, YMCA, DayCare busses, Flag pole/Carlwood side (walkers)
Lunch & Snack-
Our lunch is 10:35-11:05 (Early lunch on Early Release Day schedules.) Go to Round Rock ISD webpage to get current menu choices. There is a picture menu for elementary students.) Paying for lunches online is the easiest way to take care of payment, but you can send cash or check if needed. Kinders will not be allowed to purchase treats at lunch, please help us relay that to your child. We try to teach about healthy eating at Caraway and therefore students will also be asked to bring only healthy snacks for snack time (cheese sticks, crackers, fruit, yogurt, etc.) The snack that your child brings should also be small in size. The snack should be about the size of their fist. We have about 5 minutes to take care of snack time, so a quick healthy snack is what they need. Please pack the snack in a separate baggie or dish from the lunch. Put the snack in a pocket in the backpack and not in the lunch box. Talk through lunch and snack with your child so they know which is which. Children may also bring a small water bottle to school with them to use throughout the day. Please make sure it is one they can independently manage. I will ask them to bring refillable bottles home on Friday for cleaning.
Restroom Breaks- Please talk to your child about using the restroom when the class stops for a break. It is hard to get into a bathroom routine at first, so please talk about using the restroom when the class stops for a break.
Volunteers- I had volunteer sheets on the back table during Meet the Teacher night, but did not have anyone sign up. I will send this information out again and hope to find some volunteers for upcoming events. Kindergarten is a very active year and needs many volunteers to make it successful. I will be sending this info. in an electronic sign up and have it available outside our room as well. Thanks in advance.
Please let me know if you have any other questions before the first day of sending your children.

Dear Parents,
We are in the middle of some exciting times in kindergarten. We are learning to stretch our words with Stretchy Snake, get our mouths ready with Lips the Fish, and use our Owl Eyes to look at the pictures in a book. These are all good beginning reader strategies. Please encourage your child to use these strategies when reading at home each evening. Remember the only way to become a better reader is by reading. Thanks for all you do at home; it makes a huge difference for your child.
Pumpkin Carving with Dads- Friday, Oct. 30 from 11:30-12:30 will be our carving time. Please remember you will need to check in with Safe & Secure before coming to the classroom. If you have registered online, the process will be faster for you.
Friday Fun!- This Friday will also be pj day for red ribbon week. Please send your child in pjs, but make sure they have tennis shoes for P.E. We will also be celebrating the filling of our compliment jar on this day. Please allow your child to bring a small blanket, crib size or smaller, and a flashlight for some Flashlight Reading.
November Activities- We will be doing several activities around the Thanksgiving Feast. I will need you to send in a few supplies and I will certainly need some volunteers in order to pull this fun project off. I will need several sets of white or cream colored sheets, used and cleaned would be fine. We will be making vests from these sheets for our Native American dress up day. I will also need 20 brown paper bags without handles for our head pieces. I will also need 3 packages of large cylinder noodles for stringing. Please let me know if you are able to donate any of these items. In order for us to dress up like the other kindergarten classrooms, I will need volunteers to help prepare some of these projects. Please send me a time that you are available and I will work with you to schedule your volunteer time. Thanks!
Substitute Teacher- I will be at training next Mon.-Wed., Nov. 2, 3, & 4. Please remind your child to treat the substitute as a guest in our room. Also know that I will not be getting email during that time so call the school if you need to reach the classroom for any changes.

Reading Spot Contest
**Deadline extended until Thursday, October 15th**
This summer, you thought about creative and interesting places where you could read and snap a picture. It could have been a place you visited this summer, someplace around town, or just a weird place in your home - it was up to you!
In a few weeks judges will choose 10 winners to have their photographs blown up to POSTER SIZE and displayed in the library!
We are SO excited to see what you come up with. It's great to see our library filled up with pictures of kids reading!
Fall Harvest Fest Sign Up to Volunteer-
Volunteers Needed
We invite you to come out and have fun with your children, but the Harvest Festival can't happen without parent volunteers. We encourage you to sign up for a shift to ensure all activities remain safe and open. A shortage of volunteers will close some activities.
A variety of opportunities are available, including setup/cleanup, will call, and the various game and activity stations. Please go to our Harvest Festival Volunteer Sign Up to volunteer for a spot.
Haunted Hallway - Help Needed
We need parents to help with the Haunted Hallway -- one of the kids' favorite activities. You can volunteer to help with setup on Friday evening, or come on Saturday and have fun spooking the kids. If you have questions, or would like to help, contact Julia Brantley at [email protected], or text her at 512-567-9201. You can also go to our Haunted Hallway Sign Up Genius to sign up to help or to loan us needed items.
Haunted House flyer
Candy, Soda, & Baked Goods
The kids love trying to win treats at the Cake Walk and the Ring Toss. We love it when parents volunteer to send in either 2 liter sodas for the Ring Toss, or delicious baked goods for the Cake Walk. These activities stay open only as long as there are goodies to give away.
Please see the Sodas and Baked Goods flyer for more information. You can sign up to send in items at our Candy, Soda, & Baked Goods Sign Up Genius.

Dear Parents,
We are having a great time in kindergarten. Your children are doing a fabulous job of learning and growing. We have a few exciting things coming up in the month of October. Please watch the kindergarten Weebly site for updates on dates and times.
Oct. 12- No School for Columbus Day
Oct. 16- Book Orders are due
Oct. 26-28- Parent Teacher Conferences sign up with Volunteer Spot http://vols.pt/XtrhTz
Oct. 30- Pumpkin Carving with Dad 11:30-12:30 (Dads will bring a pumpkin and tools to carve.)
*Baggie Books- I am going to start sending more books home in the Ziploc bags. These books, strategy cards, and materials need to come back and forth to school every day. You will NOT see a new book every day. I will add to the books as the week goes on and collect all books at the beginning of the following week. It is very important that I have volunteers in my classroom to make this happen. If you can come in to read with students between 8:30-9:00, please let me know. If you have a grandma or grandpa that would like to volunteer, get them signed up too!
*I am still looking for parents to stuff Tuesday folders for October and November. It is pretty simple. I send the folders home on Monday night with all the papers that need to be sorted and you send them back on Tuesday morning stuffed. Thanks for considering.

Dear Parents,
We are off to a great start this year. The children are learning and growing each day. The routines are becoming automatic for them now. I appreciate all of the support you have given me through conversations, emails, Dojo messages, etc. Being involved will help your child understand expectations quicker. Thanks!
PTA- Please remember to join PTA this week. The information came home at the beginning of the year. It is a great way to support our school. We would love to have a popcorn party by getting everyone signed up this week.
Library Books- Our books are due tomorrow! Please help your child remember to put them in their backpack tonight. Some of the students that forgot their books last week will not have one to turn in this week.
Kindergarten T-shirts- Orders are due this Friday, September 25th. We will not order extra shirts. This is your only chance to buy the t-shirt. We will wear these shirts on field trips at the end of the year, so order a size that will fit in May. Thanks!
Orange Folders- The orange folder that is coming home today needs to come to school with your child every day. Please empty it every night and return it the next morning. It may not always have papers inside, but please check daily. It will also help you remember our “specials” for the day. Thanks!
Cheers,
Mrs. Cockerill

Dear Parents,
Thanks for attending Parent Orientation on Monday night. Your support of your child really does make a difference. I wanted to remind you of a few items. First, book orders were due today and should be in about 2 weeks from now. I will send them home in the back packs when they come in. I also want to remind you of the upcoming MUD DAY! It should be a wonderful experience for our students. I still have a few volunteer slots left to fill. Please go to the Sign Up Genius link and sign up if you can. If you are able to attend and have any old towels that you could bring, that could be very helpful in our MUD station. Thanks for all that you do everyday to make our classroom better.

Dear Parents,
I am sending this note home with the Tuesday Folders to remind you or let you know of a few items from our classroom.
- Please take all papers out of the Tuesday Folder and go through them before returning the items that need to be returned on Wednesday with the Blue Folder. I will put all papers on one side of the folder, so please disregard the labels that say sign and return and keep at home. It is too difficult to pre-sort 18 folders. Thanks for understanding.
- Please check on the kindergarten teachers weebly account for upcoming events. Information for the weebly site has already been sent home, let me know if you need further direction on this matter.
- Scholastic News Order- You can submit the order online or send a check and the order form to school if you wish to order. Our class code is P92MJ. Our order will be due on Wednesday, September 16th. Thanks for considering, we will earn points to buy books for our classroom from your orders.
- Teddy bears come to school tomorrow, Wednesday. Please keep the bears manageable in size for your child.
- In need of a few supplies for our room: easy reader books, CD player, large rug, cardstock (white and bright colors), a few more pair of child size scissors, 8 green 2-pocket folders with clasps, 8 red 2-pocket folders with clasps, wireless keyboard and mouse, CD and story books, and small toys or prizes for our treasure box. If you have any of the listed items and can donate them, please send them to school with your child. Thank you in advance for helping.
- Please sign up for Class Dojo if you have not already done so. It will be a great way to keep up with how your child’s day is going as well as receive news blasts from our classroom.
